Jennifer Almon

Chemistry, Physics,
4th Math, 7th Science

Jennifer graduated from Samford University in 1986 with a B.S. in General Science. After
graduating from undergraduate school, she continued with several more classes in the
sciences towards her masters. She has worked for two years teaching Biology and
Physical Science at Southwood Highschool in Shreveport, Louisiana. After leaving
Louisiana, Jennifer taught 6th grade General Science and 7th Grade Introduction to
Physics at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee for two years. Since then
Jennifer has been homeschooling her children, and no longer works full time.

Joy Alms

Scheduling

Joy Alms and her family have been involved with BHSE for ten years. She and her
husband, Gary, have been on the board for six years, since it's inception. Joy has been on
the staff of BHSE for eight years organizing events and happenings, as well as teaching
various classes. They graduated their oldest, Andrew, from the program in 2006 and Philip
in 2008. Their other three continue to enjoy their involvement at BHSE.

Tina Bean	Board Member 1st Grade, Civics & Economics
Tina has a BS degree in Elementary Education from David Lipscomb University. She has a Special Education endorsement from TSU. Tina taught in Davidson County for two years before home schooling her three children. She is married to Matthew.

Dr. Mary Huett

Biology 1 & 2

Dr. Mary Huette received her B.S. degree from Murray State University with a major in
agriculture and a minor in chemistry. She attended Auburn University where she received
her D.V.M. degree. She has 28 years of clinical veterinary medical practice experience
working with both large and small animals as well as several years of service with the USDA
Food Safety Inspection Service as a District Veterinary Medical Specialist. She and her
daughter have enjoyed 7 years in a home school environment.

Connie Frey

Language Arts I

Connie Frey, mother of eight, has been homeschooling for 18 years.Her fifth child has
recently graduated from BHSE and Connie is looking forward to the college graduations of
two other children. Five down, three to go. Connie, a native northerner, has taught at BHSE
for three years and is enjoying the challenge of teaching Language Arts to young
southerners. Along with Language Arts, Connie has taught Health, Spelling and Geography.

Sophia Hansen	Board Member Yearbook
Sophia has a BS in Special Education. She has 5 children whom she home schools. She and her husband Craig live in Franklin.

Debbie Hardin	Physical Science Geometry
Debbie Hardin has lived in Humphreys County most of her life. She graduated from Freed-Hardeman University in 1984 with a B.S. in Computer Science and minoring in mathematics. Debbie has home schooled for 14 years. She has taught group classes from elementary grades through high school. Debbie and her husband Tommy live in McEwen.

Claudia Hatfield	Spanish 1 and 2 Conversational Spanish
Claudia’s native tongue is Spanish and she has taught to home school groups for seven years. She has taught for the ICHTHS (Dickson Home School Tutorial) and for the Bon Aqua Home School Group. Claudia has one child.

Lori Hill	Pre-Algebra
Lori has a BS degree in Office Administration at Harding Univiversity. She has 3 daughters and a wonderful supportive husband, David. Lori has been home schooling for 13 years and was been the Treasurer of the BHSA for 9 of those years.

Monica Johnson

3-7th grades Spanish

Monica is a native of Spain. She has taught Spanish to adults and children for the last 9
years( Nashville Foreign Language Institute, Berlitz Language Center, and Davidson
Academy). She has been home schooling her three children for the last 3 years, and
teaching three Spanish classes to preschoolers and elementary age children at the South
Cheatham Public Library for the last three years.
Monica has the equivalent to a Master's degree in Biology ( Universitad Autonoma de
Barcelona) and was three courses away from being certify to teach science (Trevecca
Nazarene University) before she decided to stay home and raise her family.

Aimee McCarson	3rd - 7th grade P.E.
Aimee and her husband live in McEwen and have two children, Cody and Chad, whom they home school. Aimee and her family are active members of the Burns Church of God of Prophecy. Aimee teaches Sunday School and has been the Director of their Bible School programs.

Beth McCaw

Language Arts 2, 6th grade Language
7th Study Skills

One of Beth's greatest joys is home-schooling her two children for the past eight years. She
is noted in many education circles as a “go to person” for curriculum development. She also
works as a psychotherapist at the Center for Christian Counseling, a ministry of the
Robertson County Baptist Association in Springfield, Tennessee. She also conducts
marriage enrichment workshops geared to help couples create a personalized family mission
statement. Beth is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who holds a Master of Theological
Studies (1991) and a Master of Science in Social Work (1992). Her Bachelor’s degree is in
Pastoral Studies (1987).

Lisa Morris	Kindergarten
Lisa has been married to Roy for 25 years. They have a son and two daughters. She has home schooled for 8 years. She enjoys teaching, reading, and cross-stitch. Lisa teaches Sunday School in the 2-3 year old class. She also teaches a puppet ministry.

Lavonne Redferrin	B.H.S.E. Director Board Member 7th Language Arts Tutorial
Lavonne, first and foremost, is the Director of the BHSE Program. She has both the BS and MA Degrees in Education. Lavonne has ten years of classroom experience. She is a member of the Fairview First Baptist Church. She and her husband, Randy, have two children. She has home schooled them for 13 years. Lavonne’s hobby (more like life’s work) is rescuing animals.

Janelle Sterrett	B.H.S.E. Secretary Board Member
Janelle is married to Louie Sterrett. They have 3 children and have been home schooling for 6 years. She enjoys crafts, computing, music and watching sports as a family. She also enjoys working with preschoolers and young children.

Ann Thornton	Board Member PreKindergarten
Ann graduated MANY years ago with a degree in early childhood education and speech and language pathology. She and her husband, Terry, have three children: Elizabeth, a junior at Western Kentucky, Michael, a freshman at King, and David, a senior at BHSE. She has worked in various early childhood programs and has been the pre-school teacher for BHSE for the past two years.

Brenda Thurman	Board Member Financial Officer Algebra I
Brenda has 4 children in her brood. She graduated from West Texas State University with a BBA and a minor in Marketing and Computer Science. She enjoys going on outdoor motorcycle and ATV adventures with her family.

JoAnn Woodland

Art 3nd - 6th Grades

JoAnn has home schooled her children for 7 years. she has an associate's degree in Early
Childhood Development and worked for the Head Start Program for 9 years as Head
Teacher. Her education includes a Graphic Arts Degree. She enjoys all types of art media
and has taken several years of art instruction under Hazel King at Centennial aArt Center
in Nashville. She enjoys spending time with her family.

Teresa Greer	3rd Language Arts & Math PreK Teacher's Aide

Sharon Matheny	K - 4th grade Science
Sharon has been married for 22 years to Mike who is a professor at Lipscomb University. She has home schooled her two sons for 11 years. Sharon is a graduate of TTU with a BS in Home Economics. Her family attends Brentwood Hills Church of Christ.

Beverly Springer

Kindergarten

Beverly has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing
from Austin Peay State University. She has been in the business world one way or
another every since. Beverly has been married to Buddy for the past 19 years and they
have home schooled for the last 9 years. They have two children and have been
associated with BHSE a total of 6 years and with Whole Heart of Dickson for 9 years.

Tamyra Brown	Language Arts 3, Dance, Creative Writing & Speech
Tamyra attended MTSU where she received a Bachelors degree in secondary education and is currently enrolled in the Masters program at Travecca University for administration. She is married to Scotty Brown and they have one child. She is also the older sister to our very own Bryton Bradby.
