their parents.
The front parking lot area is off limits to all students before and after school unless
accompanied by an adult.

Older Students Arriving to Class on Time:
High school aged students are expected to know the class schedule and to be in classes on time.
The bell announcing class times is rung at the beginning and the end of each class.  The time
between the end of class and the beginning of the next class is 5 minutes.  Any unexcused
tardiness will be written up in the student's folder.  Three write-ups will result in a note being sent
home.

Driving Students
Teachers of driving students must alert the front desk when driving students are absent or more
than 10 minutes late to class.  Students who drive themselves and need to leave BHSE for part of
the day must have a  note on file signed by their parents specifying when they may leave and when
they will return.  Students may return to BHSE between classes only.

For safety reasons, students who drive may NEVER take other students from campus without
written permission or verbal permission from all parents of all students involved.  Students who
drive to BHSE and who do not attend an after school activity may not linger on the grounds once
classes are dismissed.

All students are to be under their parent's supervision when they are not in class or
clubs.
Parents that arrive for pickup early are asked not disturb any class. Please allow your
children to complete their class time.

CARE OF THE BUILDING & SAFETY
Students should take personal pride in caring for the church at all times.  They can assist those who clean
each week by using waste baskets and garbage cans for the disposal of waste materials; by refraining from
getting pencil marks and finger prints on walls; by keeping the tops of desks and tables in good condition;
by picking up paper that is lying around; and on rainy days by making sure their shoes have no mud on
them before coming in the building.  These things are not difficult to do and would be greatly appreciated.
Be a good citizen.
Use of balls in the building is restricted to recess and organized sports under the supervision of an adult
only.  Skateboards are not allowed in the building or on the front sidewalks.  Heelys-type wheeled shoes are
not to be used in the building.

LUNCHES
Hot Lunches are available to purchase for $3 each week.  A menu for each month will be placed in your
Family Folders.  Students may pack a lunch if they prefer.  No RED or PURPLE drinks are to be brought
into the church!!

COMMUNICATIONS
Group Email is the most affordable and accurate way to communicate all sorts of information to our BHSE
families. Many helpful and informative email come out and you don’t want to miss out!  If you are not
receiving the Group Email and would like to be, contact Janelle Sterrett at bhse@comcast.net and request
to be added to the list or feel free to stop by the Front Desk on Mondays.
Please let us know if your
information changes at any time during the school year
.

Family Folders and Teacher Folders are one of our most valuable communication tools.  Please check your
blue folders each week before you leave.  Feel free to leave communications for teachers in their red
folders as well.

Here on the
BHSE website read up on what your child’s day was like by clicking on the HOMEWORK tab.
Visit the CALENDAR to keep up with BHSE events and happenings!
Updates to BHSE policy will be
reflected on the website.

Feel free to ask questions anytime you need to know more about BHSE communication!

FIRE AND TORNADO DRILLS
There will be fire drills in the fall and spring.  Teachers will be aware of the safest exit route for their
classrooms in the case of a fire.  All rooms will be checked to ascertain that all persons have safely exited
the building.  There will be a tornado drill in the spring.

TUTORIAL GRADES and REPORT CARDS FOR ALL AGES
Tutorial grades will be issued one week after each grading period ends.  Students in enrichment only
classes will also receive report cards quarterly to keep you abreast of their progress.  Please sign and
return your student’s report cards.

SPORTS
We are usually able to offer volleyball both in the fall and winter months.  Student need to be 13 years or
older to participate.  We may be able to offer a parents’ team this year.  The fall session last year was for 6
weeks from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. and the winter/spring session was for 8 weeks and from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

CLUBS and AFTER-SCHOOL EVENTS
Clubs meet after school from 3:15 or 3:30 until 4:30  (please attend our informational meeting after school
on the 1st day of classes to learn about the 2008-09 offering)

Girl Scouts         Student Government
Dance                Volleyball                    Drama Club

This is a sampling of what we have been able to offer in the past and is not guaranteed as we rely on
volunteers to lead each program.

FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is a vital part of keeping BHSE as affordable as possible.  We will be announcing these
opportunities throughout the year and we ask that you participate in any way that you are able.  You do not
have to participate in each and every one to be a valuable asset in this area.

MOMS' MEETINGS
A moms' meeting will be held on the first Monday of each month from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.  Often, a guest will
be asked to speak on a specific topic to benefit home schooling families.  There will always be opportunities
to pray together and share information and ideas.

FFF
Food! Fun! & Fellowship! is an event offered each month by the Student Government.  Students from age
13 and up are invited to gather at a designated home for … you guessed it…food, fun and fellowship.  A
good time will be had by all!

Hebrews 12:11 “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a
harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

With education in a Christian atmosphere, discipline is not confined to mere control, nor should it
be equated to punishment.  Instead of being negative, Christian discipline is positive because
it
makes a contribution to Christian character and conduct
.  When a student is in association with
high ideals and values, and Christ-like attitudes, he learns to evaluate his own attitudes and
conduct in the light of these criteria.  In the classroom situation, order is necessary for the teaching-
learning process to be effective.
The student's knowledge of accepted behavior should be the
means of control.

BEHAVIORAL POLICY:
  •  Returning students to welcome new students warmly.
  •  Students to make every effort never to exclude others.
  •  If you have a problem with someone, talk to him/her first.  If you talk to someone else first, you are
    gossiping.
  •  No foul or cruel language
  •  We do not intend to mirror the public school image of discipline.  We as parents, are responsible for
our child’s behavior during class.  Please note that each teacher will have her own classroom
expectations.  It is therefore the responsibility of the teacher to establish those expectations at the
beginning of the school year and for the students to adhere to them.
  •  Bringing tobacco or alcohol in any form on church property will mean dismissal from classes.
Smoking anywhere, even in your own car, is prohibited.  Tobacco and/or alcohol in any form will not
    be tolerated.
  •  No taking God’s name in vain.
  •  No pocketknives or weapons of any kind will be tolerated.
  •  Students, teachers, and parents should be respectful towards each other.  This is not only our rule
but required of all of us by God. Threats made by students against other students or teachers will not
be tolerated.  Teachers are figures of authority and in that position should be honored and respected
    by all students and parents.

DRESS CODE:  Modesty is our main objective.
*        No tight clothing
*        No bare skin showing at midriffs
*        No sheer clothing
*        No body piercing (other than ears)
*        No tank tops
*        No sleeveless tops on boys; Girls sleeveless tops must have a 4-finger width across the strap
*        No short skirts or short shorts (skirts and shorts are to be
no more than 3" above the knee)
*        No underclothing is to be shown (seen) at any time
*        No permanent tattoos may be visible
*        No "Shock Value" tee-shirts

Note:  If the parent has any question as to whether his/her child is dressed appropriately, please
have them change to another outfit.  Classes only meet one day a week.  Appropriate dress for
school is a mark of pride in yourself and your school.
