Algebra 1 - Brenda Thurman

Today we covered Lesson 13.  As stated last week, if you hand in Lesson 13 and understood it you
would receive an additional 10 pts.  This week Lesson 13 is assigned A-E.  If you have already done
it, you are free and clear through Thanksgiving….be thankful!  Please correct Test 11 (handed out in
class) if you didn’t make a 100.  We will be having a test on Dec 1 when we return.   Have a wonderful
time with your friends and family.  I’m thankful for you, my Algebra class!

American Government & Economics - Chuck Joyner

American History Enrichment - Mandy Sohrabi

This week we watched a portion of a video that covered the first 4 presidents. We discussed our first president
and his times. We watched a portion of the DVD Founding Brothers from the History Channel. If anyone wants
to do further research, they can look into the death of George Washington or Alexander Hamilton.

Art Enrichment - Mandy Sohrabi

Assigning a grade really encouraged everyone to show up and participate. It was really exciting to see
everyone creating!

Biology 1

This week we finished up Module 5... finally!  With all the short classes it took a little while!!!!  We had fun
making glucose models with a chemistry set we borrowed from Jennifer Almon... Thank you Ms. Almon!

You were given a take home test on Module 5.  The test is closed book.  If you absolutely have to look up an
answer to a question, you may, but I would like for you to circle any questions you look up.  You will receive half
credit for those questions.

Also, for 20 points extra credit, do the following:  Get a shirt-sized box (like a gift box) with a lid in which you can
securely place and transport your project.  Turn to figure 5.7 (pg. 153 in edition 1, pg. 148 in edition 2).  Using
toothpicks and Model Magic, another air-drying clay, or styrofoam balls and paint, build the dehydration
reaction shown in Figure 5.7.  You are going to be making the chain structures shown in the picture, NOT ring
structures.  Use a different color for each type of atom.  Begin with the glycerol molecule and the three fatty
acid molecules on the right side (reactant side) of the process and build them.   Remember that there is
actually a single bond between each Oxygen and Hydrogen atom.  Be sure to put in the double bond between
the Carbons and Oxygens.  Then, take off the 6 OH groups to complete the dehydration reaction and link the
glycerol molecule to the fatty acid molecules.  This creates the products: one lipid molecule and 3 water
molecules.  Use the 6 OH groups to create the 3 water molecules.  You will bring in the completed lipid molecule
and 3 water molecules in your box.  Be sure that you count the chemical bonds to make sure that they are all in
your model.  Put a card in your box that has a legend (a list of each color and which atom it represents), the
chemical reaction, and YOUR NAME AND CLASS NAME on it.

Please email one of us if you have any questions!!

Allow yourself to have fun with the extra credit.... try not to let it stress you out!!!

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy your break!

are learning the names and locations of the muscles of the body!

Homework:
Read Module 6
Study Figures 6.3-6.6 (There will be a quiz on it the week after Thanksgiving)

Remember when you are studying to touch the muscles on your own body as you are reading about them... it
will greatly increase your retention!!

Sorry I didn't get the study guides in your family folder... look for them in your email.  I will be sending it to you
shortly.

Have a great break and a Happy Thanksgiving!  For those that are traveling, I wish you safe travels.

Email me if you have any questions... really I don't mind!

Sorry about needing a chill pill. I guess I wanted to teach you guys so much I was having anxiety issues:)  For
this week do the next lesson in spelling and write your words eight times each. Read chapters 9-11 in our novel
and do the worksheet. Remember, you are now getting a grade on your literature papers instead of just credit. I
expect complete sentences and some thought into these questions. In grammar, do pages 80-81 and then 220-
224. This is in preparation of your reports will be on Health. We'll discuss that further in the next few weeks.
Good job, Haley and Christian, on your reports. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Language Arts 2 - Beth McCaw

I can't wait to read your mysteries!  Everyone was present, so everyone
should have a homework summary sheet.  You have two weeks to finish the work
on the Homework Summary Sheet -- make sure you enjoy your break, but don't
procrastinate!  This is a great time to get caught up or ahead in AR points,
too! Happy Thanksgiving to each and all!

Pre-Algebra - Lori Hill

Next week is Thanksgiving break so there is no homework due next week.  So the kids say, “Yay! No homework,
I’m free for almost 2 whole weeks!”  But that is up to you.  I strongly encourage you to work on chapters 12 and
13 with them (and anything else they seem to be struggling with).  Have them copy the problems from the book
and rework them.  Today that is what we did.  I just kept putting problems on the board and had the students
work them then we went over them.  They acted like it was a breeze but looking at the test grades it was a
breeze only to a very few.  Yes, I did not get all the tests in.  I told the students that they could hold onto test 13
if they were not confident of a great grade.  After they have worked problem after problem until they’re real
good at it then you may give the test back to them (this would be around November 28) and let them go back
through their test and correct any error they may find.  The next unit test is coming up soon so it is important
that they really get comfortable with this stuff.

Remember, no short cuts if they’re having trouble getting their “checks” to balance.  Have them show all the
steps on paper until they’re more comfortable with it.  I hope everyone will use this extra time wisely.

Homework due:  None
Homework recommended:  Review, Review, Review
Test Due:  Only test 13 if it wasn’t turned in today.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Lori

Study Skills Enrichment 1st - Beth McCaw

Please remember to have work done, ready and out for me to check at the beginning of class -- and if it's not
done, please be prepared to spend that class session in study hall, and have a discipline form filled
out and put in your file.  I hate needing such a policy, but it appears that we need some greater leverage with a
few students.  On December 1, you will have one Assignment List (for December 1st and the following week)
and one Master schedule (dated beginning Sunday, November 30, 2008).  Happy Thanksgiving!
