Poetry & Songwriting Words are at the center of everything we see, experience, and know. They are the very vehicles of creation and when spoken, written, sang, or even thought upon, they can change the very world around us. Throughout this course we will explore the power and wonder of words as we arrange them, exchange them, align them, and define them to help us express ourselves. Beginning with the basic structures of rhythm, sound, imagery, line, and density, we’ll seek to employ poetry, songwriting, and spoken word for the purpose of personal expression. Students will be encouraged to complete a work for performance with or without accompaniment and guidance/demonstration in instrumental accompaniment will be offered. This course is meant to be fun, creative, and expressive. The instruction will be in an exploratory style with an intentional focus on discovery and performance. There will always be an atmosphere of encouragement, inspiration, affirmation, and love as each student thoughtfully explores their own creativity. “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said...” Acts 17:28
