Dick Achuff American History, Constitutional Literacy, Civics, Economics
Dick has been teaching with BHSE for six years. He is a Conservative Christian. He has a BS in Elementary Education from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and a MPA in Public Administration from the University of Tennessee. He has worked twenty plus years in public service (State and Local Public Health), ten plus years in private business (Consulting, Hi-tech communications, internet, and fund raising). He is a Navy veteran (Officer and Carrier Pilot) of the Vietnam War era. He is married to Joan and has three children and three grandchildren. He has a deep love of and commitment to the United States of America (God's great and wonderful gift to humanity)
Paula Allen Algebra I, Geometry
Paula Allen is excited to begin her work at BHSE. She is married with three grown children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She has a BS in math education from Peabody College and a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from MTSU. Paula taught math grades 7-12 for thirty-two years and now teaches Sunday School with 2’s and 3’s. Active in a number of church ministries and community organizations, she missed being in the classroom and hopes BHSE will be a perfect fit.
Tiffany Beamer Health, Personal Finance
Tiffany is the mother of four girls with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Clayton State College. Prior to becoming a stay at home and then homeschool mom she worked in telecommunications. This is her 10th year homeschooling and her daughters have been at BHSE for all 10 years. She has had the opportunity to facilitate Dave Ramsey’s Finance Peace University twice. In 2007 her family paid off all their debt, except their house, just as their youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer. They were in and out of debt during her treatment and were able to pay off all her medical expenses within a year of the end of her treatment. Tiffany has worked with the American Heritage Girls troop at BHSE for the past six years and has been active in the preschool, children’s, and youth areas of their church In 2010, she started a group of moms from across the country of children who have fought cancer to join together to raise money while shaving their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer. She is excited for the opportunity to share her experiences with the students of BHSE and help them learn the tools they need for a healthy life, both physically and financially.
Nicole Coffman-Cole Anatomy & Physiology, General Science, Sign Language
Nicole graduated in December of 2003 with her Doctorate in Chiropractic. One month later, her second child was born! Consequently, she has only worked with patients part time. She met and married her husband, Dan, while in chiropractic school and since graduation has enjoyed staying home to raise and homeschool their children! She moved with her husband and kids to Dickson in August of 2008. Since March 2012, they reside in Waverly. Her main goal right now is to raise her three children and home schooling is a part of that plan. Her children, Samantha, Benjamin, and Olivia are thankful to be a part of BHSE! This will be Nicole Coffman-Cole’s 10th school year as a tutor at BHSE. She has taught many different grade levels from being the assistant in the Kindergarten class to teaching high school tutorials. When she first started, she had her youngest, Olivia, with her as a baby being spoiled by high school students or parents onsite. Now, Olivia is enjoying her own classes at BHSE in 4th grade!
Marilyn Fair Drama, Kindermusik
Marilyn Fair is excited to be returning to BHSE for her 6th year with our wonderfully talented students. She and her singer/songwriter husband, Joe Fair, live in Fairview where they raised their son Nick, who is now a graduate of BHSE. Marilyn came to Tennessee straight from the Off-Broadway Production of THE FANTASTICKS in NYC. She trained vocally with Emile Renan of NYC Opera and studied acting with Elizabeth Browning of Circle Rep. She has a BA in Theatre Arts and has performed professionally for over 30 years throughout the east including in Tennessee at the Cumberland County Playhouse, Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre and The Gaslight Dinner Theatre in Dickson. She continues to perform in various productions in the Nashville area and recently directed THE LITTLE MERMAID, Jr. and THE FANTASTICKS for The Renaissance Players in Dickson. Marilyn has worked for 8 years as a substitute teacher for the Williamson County Schools, is the Music & Drama teacher for both BHSE and Greater Things Christian School, and teaches Private Voice and Piano in her home studio.
Lee Fitts Storytelling, Survival Skills
Lee Fitts is 20-year veteran of homeschooling. He is the father of nine children, all of whom have been homeschooled. Lee, and his wife Lisa, have graduated four children and are still homeschooling five children. Lee has taught tutorial art classes for 15 years and has been a leader in Cub Scouts as well as the Moral Leadership Officer, and Squadron Commander, of The Wilson County Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (the U.S. Airforce youth auxiliary). Lee is a veteran of the United States Army. Lee loves teaching children and being a positive leader and role model
Bonniegene Grace Elementary classes
Bonniegene has lived in TN for 9 years. Her husband is the minister for the McEwen Church of Christ. They have two boys, Samuel 9 years old and Eli, 7 years old. She has homeschooled their children for 4 years and been a part of BHSE for 2 years. Both Bonniegene and her husband graduated from Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL where she earned her Criminal Justice degrees.
Claudia Hatfield Spanish I, Spanish II
Claudia’s native tongue is Spanish. She has taught to home school groups for fourteen and a half years. She has a wonderful husband named Jim and they have a daughter named Anne who is residing in North Carolina with her husband who is stationed in the military there. Claudia has one grandbaby named Blaize!
Kelly Hornbeak Elementary English, Apologetics, Digital Media & Photography
Kelly Marie Hornbeak is an eternally grateful follower of Christ, and isthe daily blessed wife to Troy & mother to Ashley & Brooklyn. Kelly is a lifelong learner beginning with a BSED from the University of North Alabama & growing with aMSED from the University of Tennessee at Martin and abroadly experienced teacher in variety of topics such as color guard, ballroom dancing,kindergarten, special needs, women's bible studies, home decor, & art. Angie Kelley English 7th, English Structure
Angie Kelley is happily married with 2 sons, Justin 19 and Kendall 16. Justin attends Lincoln Memorial University and Kendall attends Harpeth High School. Angie and her husband, Wayne, own their own electrical business, in hopes of one day funding their dream, to open a boy’s home ministry. Before coming involved in home schooling, Angie worked at Harpeth High School as a Special Education assistant for 6 years, creating new programs to further assist students and their families make the best of their education. She has her Associates of Science in teaching and has greatly enjoyed working with children for the past 23 years.
Jamie Kook Biology
Jamie Kook attended the University of Utah and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. During her time there, she participated in the ACCESS Program for Women in Math and Science and the Biology Undergraduate Research Program. She worked in labs that studied the cardiovascular system in alligators and the effects of Lyme Disease on the heart. After graduating form the University of Utah, Jamie earned her Master’s of Education from Vanderbilt University and obtained her teaching license for 7-12th grade Biology. Jamie is passionate about teaching and learning. She worked as the Assistant Director of Administration for Huntington Learning Center, an educator for both Utah’s Hogle Zoo and Nashville Zoo, and currently works in educational video game design at Vanderbilt University. Along with her husband and two dogs, Jamie enjoys being in nature and hiking. She also loves reading and playing board games. Jamie and her husband are the proud parents of their vivacious 2 year old daughter, Dani.
Melissa Lain Elementary Science, Destination Imagination
Melissa graduated with honors in 2000 from Wesleyan College with a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. She met and married Scott in 2001 and served as a full-time youth pastor for three years until the Lord called her into full-time “family ministry” when they were expecting their first child. She and Scott now live in Pegram and have four beautiful children, Anthony (13), Jackson (12), Aidan (10), and Katelyn (8). Melissa enjoys serving in the children’s ministry at West End Community Church and serving as the Children’s Director of the Nashville Day Class of Community Bible Study. This is her sixth year serving as a tutor for BHSE.
Elisabeth Long K4
Elisabeth grew up in a proud Army family. She has moved at least 15 times and attended three different high schools. She has lived in Germany, Korea, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to name a few places. She will always have a passion for traveling and exploring. Elisabeth brings the same passion for exploring into her teaching. She was the director of the preschool program at her church for five years during which time she decided to homeschool her two children. During this beautiful journey of teaching her own children (11th and & 7th grade), she decided to return to her beloved Pre-K. Her family has been very involved with BHSE for 9 years.
Rachel Rist English I, English II, English III/IV
After graduating college my husband and I joined the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ and ministered to college students for twenty years. Feeling called to homeschool, I began educating my two children in 2003. I discovered Institute for Excellence in Writing in 2008, started teaching this method of writing to other children in 2011, and officially earned my certification through IEW in 2014. I have been teaching children other than my own for six years now and thoroughly enjoy it.
Cindy St. Hilaire 2nd grade, Elementary Art
Cyndi and her husband Vance moved from Massachusetts to Kingston Springs in 1994. Their three children were blessed to be a part of BHSE. Cyndi has always had a strong calling as well as a love for working with children. She has home schooled her own children since 1996 and has been teaching at BHSE since 2006. Presently Cyndienjoys serving the community throughout the year in neighborhood group projects, fostering dogs, VBS, and is looking forward to helping as a Safe Room monitor. She finds CBS preschool teaching and tutoring at BHSE to be the biggest blessings of her week.
Amy Thurman Elementary Math
Amy was born in Nashville and moved around through her schooling years. She returned to Nashville for high school and has lived here for the last 30 years. She is a mother of three with an Organizational Communications degree from Lipscomb University. She worked several years as a Healthcare Consultant. Since her oldest began kindergarten, she has homeschooled all her children ages 11, 9 and 7. As of recent, she has worked in a tutorial classroom setting and serves as the Wedding Ministry Leader at her church. She has a love of math, science, art and nutrition. She also enjoys the outdoors and considers everyone she meets to be a friend.
Stephanie Walker Kindergarten
A Pegram native, Stephanie has been a BHSE home schooling parent for twelve years. Both daughters, Paiton and Preslee, have attended since Kindergarten. Prior to teaching Kindergarten at BHSE, Stephanie worked with our younger students as the Pre-K Assistant for five years. Stephanie graduated, with honors, from Middle Tennessee State University, with a degree in Marketing/Advertising. After college, she became Vice President of Community Bank & Trust, married her high school sweetheart, and became mom to her two girls. In addition to teaching, Stephanie helps run the family business, and lives on a farm with her family, an odd assortment of cows, chickens, bees, and a couple of well-loved pets.
JoAnn Woodland 7th-12th grade Art, Advanced Art
JoAnn and Glenn Woodland are from southern New Jersey and have been married for 30 years. They have lived in the Nashville area since 1985. Their twochildren have always homeschooled. One child now has a college degree and is now married to another BHSE alum. They have attended BHSE since the eldest was is 1st grade. They have watched their children become well rounded with the blessings of God and the help of BHSE. The family has also made many precious friendships along the way. JoAnn has taught art at BHSE for 12 years, grades 2nd through 12th. She has an associate's degree in EarlyChildhood Development andworked for the Head Start Program for nine years as HeadTeacher. Her education also includes a Graphic Arts Degree. JoAnn enjoys all types of art mediaand has taken several years of art instruction under Hazel King at the Centennial Art Centerin Nashville.
